Have you ever experienced a situation where everything that could go wrong did go wrong? Maybe you missed an important deadline, spilled coffee on your laptop, or got stuck in traffic when you were already late. If so, you might have blamed it on Murphy’s law, the popular adage that states: “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”
Murphy’s law is named after Edward A. Murphy Jr., an American aerospace engineer who coined the phrase in 1949 after a failed rocket sled experiment. He was frustrated by a technical error made by one of his assistants and said: “If there’s any way to do it wrong, he will find it.”
Since then, Murphy’s law has become a common expression of pessimism and frustration, often used to explain or justify bad luck, failures, or disasters. However, is Murphy’s law really true? And if so, how can we cope with it and even use it to our benefit?
